Ana Maeso & Samuel Gaudó

she/her & he/him

Ana is a guest in the Afro-American dance culture: ballroom dancer and teacher from Granada (Spain). She grew up with an interest in experimental jazz, black metal, and professional pókemon. During a literature study, she unexpectedly stumbled across swing dance. She was immediately drawn to the dance’s capacity for intimacy and creativity.

Samu was born in Aragon (Spain) and studied engineering and illustration. In the course of his studies, he fell deeply in love with every member of the swing dance family. When he first observed people dancing, he was captivated by the dancers‘ smiles on their faces. This is what he tries to bring across in his lessons: the joy, love, and respect for this music and this dance.

The focus of the courses is on collaborative interchange – learning by doing and dancing rather than explaining. They strive to create a setting in which partner dance seems like an exploration rather than a mechanical repetition of patterns. Their classroom environment is defined by their idea that by approaching dance with humility and respect, we can honour its heritage while also sharing its beauty with others in a meaningful and authentic way. Dance should be a balance between respect for the music, connection with other dancers, and the search for individuality in dance.

Both presently live in Berlin, where they teach and organise events for the Rayuela Swing Academy. Check out their Website: https://www.rayuelaswing.com/
